Hilltowns and Freedom Tour: Kennedy rides his way to triumph

Hunter Resek and Patrick Galvin took the start line together for the 13th annual tour of the Hilltowns Road race Saturday the 23rd. The field averaged close to 30mph for the first 20 miles of the race (all down hill) before hitting the wall. The 4 mile, ~1400' climb devastated the field. Hunter and PG were in the remains on the peleton after the climb with a group of 6 riders off the front. Unfortunately, the break away of 6 riders held their lead for the rest of the race. PG and Hunter finished 2nd and 5th in the field sprint however for a respectable 8th and 11th place overall. PG was 3rd for Mass riders and was awarded the bronze medal for the MA state championship road race! Congrats PG!

After a quick bite to eat, Hunter and PG traveled to Stirling, NJ to race in the freedom tour on Sunday with UNH teammate James Kennedy. PG Placed 28th out of 49 finishers in the competitive pro/1/2/3 criterium.
Men cat 4 were next. James Kennedy looked strong consistently hanging out in the top 10. With 3 laps to go JK broke away from the field with a group of 4 riders. With one lap to go the break had a mere 6 seconds. All spectators anxiously awaited for the riders to come around the last corner to see if the break had survived. The pace car took the sharp left, and sure enough JK Blasted out of the corner right behind. JK broke away from the break and sprinted the long straight away to his first ever win! CONGRATS JAMES!
In the cat 3 race Hunter and PG stayed aggressive. With 2 miles to go PG made a break for it flying solo. Diving deep into the pain cave PG tried to keep his cadence high and his watts ever higher! With 1 lap to go the field was at an all out chase with PG about 7 seconds ahead. PG came around the last left hand turn with the finish line 100m in front of him...when the field blasted past him. :(
Fortunately Hunter was a part of the field and placed 12th! Nice job Hunter!

Great weekend of Racing UNH!!
